Izmir Airport, known as İzmir Adnan Menderes Airport (ADB), is the primary air gateway to Türkiye’s Aegean region. Situated approximately 18 kilometers southwest of İzmir’s city centre in the Gaziemir district, the airport is strategically positioned along the D.550/E87 highway, facilitating direct routes to southern destinations such as Selçuk and Aydın. 90 kilometres east of Çeşme, Izmir Airport is named after Turkish politician and former Prime Minister (1950-1960) Adnan Menderes, who was born locally in Koçarlı (Aydın Province) and schooled in İzmir. The airport is relatively modern, with the international terminal built in 2008 and the domestic terminal in 2014.
Both terminals have modern amenities to enhance passenger experience, including various dining establishments, retail outlets, and passenger services. Efficient transportation links, such as the İZBAN commuter rail system, connect the airport to İzmir and its surrounding areas, ensuring seamless transit for travelers. The Havaş coach shuttle service operates routes from the airport to Çeşme, offering a cost-effective journey of about 1 hour and 40 minutes. Additionally, private transfer services provide direct routes to Çeşme, catering to travelers seeking a more personalised experience.

International arrivals: Opposite the passport control booths. Domestic departures: Near gate 240. International arrivals: On the mezzanine arrival level next to the escalator down to the baggage hall.

Smoking at Izmir Airport
As with most airports, smoking is generally restricted inside the International and Domestic terminals at İzmir Adnan Menderes Airport (ADB). However, there are designated smoking areas outside the terminal buildings where passengers can smoke before entering the security checkpoints and designated locations both landside and airside. In the International Terminal, there is a designated smoking area near Gate 233 after passing through security and passport control. This area is accessible through a coffee shop and provides a small courtyard for smokers.
In the Domestic Terminal, multiple smoking terraces are located after the security checkpoint. Notably, smoking areas can be found near Gates 236, 238 and 242, each accompanied by a café offering snacks within the terrace area. Another smoking area is on the CIP floor, adjacent to the CIP security checkpoint and opposite the lounges. Smoking policies and designated areas may change, so it’s advisable to check the latest information upon arrival at the airport or consult the official airport website for updates.

Toilets at Izmir Airport
The toilets at Izmir airport are mainly near the departure gates in both international and domestic departures. Their design is quirky and highly inefficient, since while there are many toilet blocks, they are tiny, usually with just a single seated cubicle and a single urinal in each toilet. Therefore, there are often queues or long waits for the bathroom, especially if a flight is due to board. The toilets are also frequently closed due to servicing. If unavailable or occupied, it is often worth finding a gate with no pending departure.

The baggage custody service is located on the landside in the arrivals halls, both to the right (as passengers depart the respective luggage halls).
